Control of Work

HSECai handles hot work, cold work, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) energy isolations out of the box, plus configurable permit types you define for confined-space entry, working at height, excavation, or any site-specific hazard. Each permit type carries its own risk assessment, control checklist, and approval workflow. Because permit types are configuration rather than custom code, new ones can be added without a development cycle.

The live permit board shows every active, pending, and expired permit across a site in real time, so controllers can see at a glance where work is happening and who authorized it. It surfaces simultaneous operations and isolation conflicts before a permit is approved — for example, hot work near an open confined space or overlapping isolations on shared equipment. This gives the permit issuer a single operating picture instead of paper permits scattered across a control room.

LOTO isolations are recorded as structured records tied to the permit and the affected equipment, capturing each isolation point, the locks and tags applied, and the verification steps required before and after work. Isolations stay visible on the permit board for their full lifecycle, so long-running or group isolations cannot be lost or reused by a conflicting permit. De-isolation follows the same controlled sequence, with sign-off recorded against the responsible person.

Control of Work runs on the same native-AI platform as HSECai's risk, incident, and compliance modules, so permits draw on shared registers of assets, hazards, and people rather than a separate data silo. A permit that identifies a new hazard can raise it into the risk register, and an incident during permitted work links back to the originating permit for investigation. Because it is one platform rather than bolted-together acquisitions, this works from day one and typically deploys in weeks.
